OET Test Format
Reading Module
The reading module contains two parts, Part A and Part B. Part A has 30 questions, and the time allotted is 15 minutes. Part B has 20 questions, all are multiple-choice questions, and the time given is 45 minutes.
Writing Module
The writing section comprises a single task of letter writing. It can be an admission letter, a letter to a doctor, a discharge letter, a letter to a rehabilitation center, or a transfer letter to another hospital. You will be a case note of a patient with complete medical history. The total time is 45 minutes.
Listening Module
Listening has Part A and Part B. Part A is a two communication between doctor and patient, and you will need to complete the case history of a patient. Part B you need to hear the person talking carefully and complete the notes.
Speaking Module
Speaking includes role-play. The examiner will pretend as a patient, this section evaluates your communication skills including grammar. The condition of the patient information will be available to you, and the task you need to complete. Timings: 3 minutes to prepare for your role-play and 5 minutes to complete your role-play.
